Security is a Priority

spikesWith escalating crime, security is a high on our priority list.  Our first line of defence is our perimeter fencing.   We all want our family to be safe, and as we work hard for what we have, we do not want criminals just coming in and helping themselves to our belongings.

Putting up good, quality perimeter security fences gives a measure of security.   We need to bear in mind that there is no fence truly infallible.   Fences are erected for our safety and to keep intruders out, but given enough time and the right tools, even Fort Knox can be breached.

fence being cutHaving a good security fence will slow down criminals long enough for security companies or police to arrive and take action.  That is why you need to install the best possible fence to deter criminals.  A criminal wants a fence that is easy to scale or access as they also need to make a quick getaway, and if your security fence is of high quality with extras like spikes, rollers or other climb deterrents, it makes it less attractive to criminals.

Fencing, like chain link are not a security option, all it takes is a pair of wire cutters and a few minutes and they will be inside your property, and also have an easy way to escape.

There are so many different security fences available, as well as optional extras, like spikes, electric fencing, etc., that we need to have good advice on which would best suit our requirements.

Country Wide Walling are experts in security fencing and walling, so feel free to contact us to have one of our consultants come out to discuss your requirements and give you a free quotation.

Remember, safety is not only your priority, it is also ours.

Planning Boundary Walls and Fences

survey pegIt is important to check the boundary walls and fences policy with your local authority, before you erect your boundary wall, or you might be saddled with penalties and fines, and the possibility of having to tear down your boundary fences.  It is ultimately up to them what you can, and cannot do, as regards your boundary walls.

Boundary walls are one of the most controversial topics facing home owners.  Two very important issues are the position of boundary walls, and the ownership of them. All properties are surveyed and pegged when land is zoned for residential use.

Generally the pegs are removed as soon as the land is built on, that is why it is important to ensure that the boundary walls and fences are correctly positioned from the start. It may be necessary to get a land surveyor to resurvey the property, if there is a dispute between neighbours over the positioning of the boundary fences.  The land surveyor will resurvey the property according to the official diagram that is lodged with the Surveyor General in Pretoria.

surveyorcheckingwallsYou are allowed to erect a boundary fence on your own property.  This does not only apply to the fence or wall, but also to the foundations which would be wider and longer than the wall itself.   Then the structure will belong to you. On the other hand, if you and your neighbour share the cost, then the structure should be erected so that it is on both properties.

If the wall belongs to you only, the law will protect the structure, should your neighbour decide to dig down next to your wall on their side, especially if it is likely to wash away the earth when there are heavy rains.  If the neighbour wants to do some sort of excavation next to your fence or wall, they would have to erect a retaining wall which would require plans being submitted for approval.

It is always best to check with your local authority as regards the height of the walls to avoid later problems.  Generally walls are allowed up to 1.8m without a plan having to be submitted, as it would be regarded as minor building work.  Some authorities do allow up to 2.1m, but it is better to be safe than sorry, so take the time to find out exactly what it allowed, as regards height and type of walling, and security features allowed.

Crime Prevention Roller Barrier Wall Topping

child climbing fenceIf you are in need of an anti-climb barrier that is child proof, yet will protect your property from unwanted people climbing over your fence, then a “Roller Barrier” is the ideal solution.

The Roller Barrier System consists of unbreakable roller cups, which are flame retardant, threaded onto a central shaft, supported at intervals by fixing brackets. The cups are too large to get a grip and rotate freely and independently on the shaft, thus forming an unstable barrier which is extremely difficult to climb over.

The Roller Barrier works effectively at:

1.    Keeping unwanted people out of your property
2.    Is impossible to grasp to get a handhold to climb
3.    Spinning action makes sure it can’t be climbed over

Climb Prevention RollerCrime prevention Roller Barriers can be used extensively to protect your property, you can even have a double row if your wall height is a bit low.  You can install on walls, gates, to keep intruders from climbing onto your roof, and feel more secure.

Not only are they grip proof, should anyone try to climb over, the alarm will go off and alert you to a possible intrusion.  This is a safe way to keep children and pets inside your property, while keeping possible intruders outside.

It is a great way to secure areas you are not sure of, where a ladder or other means to climb over is possible, and ensures that your property is safe for your family’s protection.
