Prevention is Better than Cure

algae on wallIf you live in a hot, humid climate, with plenty of rain, chances are that your walls are exposed to too much dampness, which in turn gives algae and fungus, and even moss, a foothold to grow and spread.

There are ways to prevent and combat this.

When your walls are erected, always make sure there is a good drainage system in place to prevent the water damming up against the walls.

Cleaning your walls regularly is a sure-fire method to prevent any algae or fungus attacking your walls.

Over time, algae can even discolour your walls, making them unsightly and spoiling their aesthetic beauty.

Do not allow grass, weeds, leaves, or any debris to build up next to the walls, as these will retain the water, which in turn will keep the walls damp, making them prone to algae and fungus attacks.

Avoid planting any shrubs close to the walls, as this will facilitate water retention, which in turn will keep the walls damp, thus encouraging algae and fungus growth.

Regular inspection, and cleaning of the walls, will ensure that any chips or cracks are quickly seen.

There are wall designs which incorporate good drainage, and these are the best to erect in hot, humid and rainy areas.

Prevention is always better than cure.  If there is no algae, there is no need for a cure.

No Place to Hide

green palisadeWhether you choose palisade or solid walls, your main concern is security for your property, family and belongings.

There are many options for security walling, and a lot to take into account when choosing what is best for you.

Not only do you want security, aesthetic appeal is also a must, as it enhances not only the look of the property, but also the value.

treesShould you choose palisade fencing, there are also options available to you. Palisade fencing comes in concrete, or steel.   Palisade is a great off-putter to would be intruders, as it offers no privacy or hiding places for them once they enter your property, but it is also not as private for you as a solid wall would be.

The fact that it offers no cover for intruders is a good reason to use palisade, as intruders can easily be seen from the road

You should always use either a low brick fence as base, or a concrete apron on which to build your palisade, as you do not want intruders being able to dig under the fence to gain entry. Make sure you have a good foundation, so that it is too difficult to dig under to gain access to your property.

Palisade can also be used as a topping on brick or concrete walls.  This will prevent children or animals from slipping out of your property and getting into the traffic, as well as being off-putting to would be intruders.

Always make sure that you do not have trees growing close to your boundary walls, as this is an easy way for intruders to gain entry.

Concrete Security Walls

ready made wallConcrete walls can be decorative and not just a dull grey structure as we imagine.   During the manufacturing process permanent colour can be added to the wet concrete mix to ensure that the colour will be permanent, and the walls will not need to be painted in the future.
Alternatively, the walls can be painted at a later stage to incorporate the desired colour to complement the design of the property or wall.

Concrete is the perfect walling material as it does not rust like steel, and is very limited maintenance, and is very durable, stable and long lasting.

Why settle for ordinary when you can have a wall that is not only strong, durable but also aesthetically pleasing.   In South Africa we value our privacy and security.   We tend to build high walls as a sense of security and a deterrent to would be criminals.   It is therefore a good idea to have a concrete fencerazor wire of about 2.4m and top it with palisade, razor wire, barbed wire, or electric fencing.

Unfortunately the high walls also offer criminals a good way to be undetected once they are in your property.  There are many aspects of security to take into account when deciding on a security wall for our properties, therefore it is a good idea to discuss all pros and cons with an expert who can advise and guide us to make the correct choice for the safety of our family and property.

Country Wide Walling are walling specialists and can give you expert   advice and guidance to ensure you have the best security possible.
