What Are Anti-Climb Spikes?

rotating anti climb spikesAnti-climb spikes are widely used on top of walls and fencing and act as a deterrent to a would-be intruder.   They come in single spike, double spike and rotary razor.   There is also a blade spike often used on the top rails of palisade fencing.

Perimeter walls are the first line of defence when it comes to protecting our homes.  Fences should be at least 2.1m high, to deter a would-be intruder from trying to climb over your perimeter fencing.warning sign

Any product that is on top of your wall if it is high, becomes much more effective as it becomes virtually impossible to tamper with it.

Do not have wide pillars or any foothold that will help an intruder climb over.

An excellent product to fit to the top of the wall would be wall spikes as they are heavily ribbed for strength and extremely dangerous to climb over.  Make sure the anchors used to fit the razor spikes are very difficult to remove, they should expand inside the wall for added benefit.

Do not plant trees or bushes close to your perimeter, as they afford burglars an excellent hiding place.  Any bushes should be small and neatly trimmed to prevent anyone from hiding behind them.

A wall that has razor spikes is a good way to keep your family safe and secure.

Planning Boundary Walls and Fences

survey pegIt is important to check the boundary walls and fences policy with your local authority, before you erect your boundary wall, or you might be saddled with penalties and fines, and the possibility of having to tear down your boundary fences.  It is ultimately up to them what you can, and cannot do, as regards your boundary walls.

Boundary walls are one of the most controversial topics facing home owners.  Two very important issues are the position of boundary walls, and the ownership of them. All properties are surveyed and pegged when land is zoned for residential use.

Generally the pegs are removed as soon as the land is built on, that is why it is important to ensure that the boundary walls and fences are correctly positioned from the start. It may be necessary to get a land surveyor to resurvey the property, if there is a dispute between neighbours over the positioning of the boundary fences.  The land surveyor will resurvey the property according to the official diagram that is lodged with the Surveyor General in Pretoria.

surveyorcheckingwallsYou are allowed to erect a boundary fence on your own property.  This does not only apply to the fence or wall, but also to the foundations which would be wider and longer than the wall itself.   Then the structure will belong to you. On the other hand, if you and your neighbour share the cost, then the structure should be erected so that it is on both properties.

If the wall belongs to you only, the law will protect the structure, should your neighbour decide to dig down next to your wall on their side, especially if it is likely to wash away the earth when there are heavy rains.  If the neighbour wants to do some sort of excavation next to your fence or wall, they would have to erect a retaining wall which would require plans being submitted for approval.

It is always best to check with your local authority as regards the height of the walls to avoid later problems.  Generally walls are allowed up to 1.8m without a plan having to be submitted, as it would be regarded as minor building work.  Some authorities do allow up to 2.1m, but it is better to be safe than sorry, so take the time to find out exactly what it allowed, as regards height and type of walling, and security features allowed.

Crime Prevention Roller Barrier Wall Topping

child climbing fenceIf you are in need of an anti-climb barrier that is child proof, yet will protect your property from unwanted people climbing over your fence, then a “Roller Barrier” is the ideal solution.

The Roller Barrier System consists of unbreakable roller cups, which are flame retardant, threaded onto a central shaft, supported at intervals by fixing brackets. The cups are too large to get a grip and rotate freely and independently on the shaft, thus forming an unstable barrier which is extremely difficult to climb over.

The Roller Barrier works effectively at:

1.    Keeping unwanted people out of your property
2.    Is impossible to grasp to get a handhold to climb
3.    Spinning action makes sure it can’t be climbed over

Climb Prevention RollerCrime prevention Roller Barriers can be used extensively to protect your property, you can even have a double row if your wall height is a bit low.  You can install on walls, gates, to keep intruders from climbing onto your roof, and feel more secure.

Not only are they grip proof, should anyone try to climb over, the alarm will go off and alert you to a possible intrusion.  This is a safe way to keep children and pets inside your property, while keeping possible intruders outside.

It is a great way to secure areas you are not sure of, where a ladder or other means to climb over is possible, and ensures that your property is safe for your family’s protection.

steel palisade gate

Understanding the benefits of steel security gates will help you decide whether they suit your purpose for your home.

1.   Security

Using steel security gates is an ideal way to make your home safer and also precenting unwanted people from entering your property.  It is a good way to give you more control as you can operate them from inside your home with the help of a camera and buzzer.  In this way you can decide who to allow to enter your property.

2.   Parking

If you make use of steel security gates with access control it will help you to ensure that people do not use your propery as a parking space, which would prevent you from using it, especially if you have a large amount of property.

3.   Safety

Steel Security Gates

It is even more relevant to have steel security gates if you have a garden, as it will help to create a safer space for children or dogs to prevent them wandering out into the road and being run over or lost.   It will prevent stray animals from entering your property, and also unwelcome intruders.
It has huge safety benefits.

4.   Deterrent

Besides the obvious benefit that steel security gates provide in preventing intruders from gaining access to your home, they will also act as a deterrent. An imposing set of steel gates can be enough to make a criminal think twice about attempting to burgle your home because it will prove too difficult to get in and out.

5.   Maintenance

Steel security gates are stronger than other types of gate, such as those made of wood, as they will last much longer.

Steel security gates do not require a lot of maintenance, as they can be cleaned of debris and insects with a cloth and any household cleaner.

It is also a good habit to check latches and hinges regularly for any signs of rust.

The security of your home and family is a priority, therefore you should always choose the best method of protecting them.
